It's not perfect timing, but I would like to see a dedication to New York "Downtown" design, specifically from 1999 - 2002.

Over time, many people have pegged these crucial years as the turning point in American fashion and society in general–a shift from analog to tech.

So many of those young designers from that period are no longer in business: Doo.Ri, Benjamin Cho, VPL, Richard Chai, Daryl K, Katyone Adeli, Miguel Adrover, Susan Ciancolo, Heatherette, Bruce...there are more.

This would be the last cohort able to engage with a different New York fashion system: one could live in Manhattan still relatively cheaply; fashion was still about the creative, and the business side took a secondary position; there were more independent retailers to get one's designs in; the industry was smaller.

Tomorrow will be the 25th anniversary of one of the most pivotal days in US history. It would be nice for the Met to go back and cover a group of fashion creatives who lived and worked during such an important era.

Im excited to join this community. My roots are in luxury/designer apparel with some illuminating detours through fast/mass fashion. Seen the best and the very worst of this industry, but still here for the clothes. Am in the process of trying to figuring out how to do things differently, and how to redirect process away from the industry's toxic trajectory.

I’m happy to join this community. I am never going to buy a birkin, Chloe clothing, or anything over $50. Yes there is second hand which has allowed me a second pair of loafers and weird sweater that is so warm. Landsend pieces and totes, but I have to buy clothes that I can wear every season because I live in Texas, air conditioning, and being retire in ranch company you just don’t dress up. Current uniform white t shirt from Hanes, and jeans.

I have pale Irish skin complexion. Blue-gray eyes, always with wire frame eyeglasses. Hair is brown, now with touches of gray. Beard is gray stubble.

Note that I am vegan, and will not wear wool or leather.

My height and physique is similar to Ben Affleck and Hugh Jackman (though not as muscular). I'm closer to the slimmer British actors Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, and Matthew Goode.

I have a modest budget.

Wild Card: I also enjoy watching fashion videos on Bliss Foster's YouTube channel, where he features avant-garde clothes by Yohji Yamamoto etc. I like Foster's idea of choosing a wardrobe that is a unique “personal uniform. “ So occasionally suggest an “edgy” piece for me to try in my wardrobe.

My typical daily outfit is an OCBD shirt, dark indigo Levis 511 jeans (slim fit), and a blazer or suit jacket. Sometimes I’ll wear a turtleneck shirt. I also own a bomber jacket and denim trucker jackets. I have a few Gap sweatshirts and sweaters. I own a lot of suits, some with vests. My footwear is usually black slip-on canvas Skechers.

Give me advice while referencing the sharp perspective of fashion critics Tan France, Derek Guy, Eugene Rabkin and Angelo Flaccavento. But remember that Stella McCartney's vegan perspective is key."

I am Alex Demouy. I am a 29 year old male who works in the food industry and I have zero idea about fashion. I only know that I can look decent wearing darker shade clothes. Why do I think Ms. Odell is a brilliant writer/journalist/ and host? Especially, when I have no clue about fashion or journalism as I did not study it in college. Gwyneth Paltrow. I started watching her videos on her and soon discovered I wanted to watch more videos about her. I have read two books by her Tales From The Back Row amd Gwyneth.

Anna Wintour was the second book Ms. Odell wrote. I need to more research before I purchase her book.

Hello. Still trying to figure out how and where to make a comment about Back Row today’s conversation about Lauren Sanchez. I’m happy she loves clothes…but she never wears a complete outfit. She is always hanging waaay out of the top on everything. Her problem is her choices are constantly in bad taste. We all know she has more money than almost anyone. Since she is so rich, she should not dress so cheap.
