You still have time to submit your swimwear recs! The recent Anti-It Bag roundup was such a hit that I would love to hear from you all about your favorite swimwear. I feel like finding good swimwear has never been harder. (Is it just me or does everything seem to be a diaper or a thong, with little in between?) But we can get through this together. Please take a minute to reply to this email to submit a response, or you can do so anonymously here.

The New York Times shares the astonishing story of Hamptons landscape workers, who spend the winter shrouding mansion hedges in burlap to protect them, yet themselves cannot afford shelter beyond a tent in the woods. One 51-year-old laborer, Gilberto Camey, died over the winter in 20-degree weather. He was found on his back in the snow by his brother, wearing a blue Champion sweatshirt.
Lure Fishbar in Soho has been saved. The neighboring Prada store had considered expanding into the basement space with its own dining spot, Pasticceria Marchesi, which would have wiped out Lure Fishbar, a staple in the neighborhood for more than 20 years. John McDonald’s Mercer Street Hospitality newsletter thanked Prada for responding to entreaties to leave Lure alone.
Check out McDonald’s new newsletter, On the House, an updated version of the boutique design magazine City he launched in 2008.
Balenciaga is doing an ad partnership with Substack. Investing in newsletter creators over, say, Vogue, makes an abundance of sense, and Substack has been leaving money on the table by not having advertising until now. But Big Fashion throwing money around here marks a significant shift in this slice of media. Substack’s other ad partners include Polymarket, Whatnot, Granola, and T Mobile.
Pharrell Williams had a gorgeous tidal wave set for his Louis Vuitton show, which featured shell bags and LV bikes. Wallpaper reports “real water” was “provided by the Eau de Paris corporation, which manages the city’s aquatic network. Following the show, the water will be discharged into Paris’s famous sewer-system, in a closed circuit.”
And now, today’s big story…

These projections, executed equally compellingly in NYC around this year’s Tech Gala, are becoming part of the fabric of modern protest movements. When done right, they pack a real punch — the kind of marketing might that even Meta can’t buy via Kylie Jenner and literally owning the world’s social media.
Since the annual predictions list I publish here in Back Row has become one of the most popular stories, I’m doing a mid-year check-in to see how they’ve done so far. I’m also adding to the list since many of the predictions I made have already come true!

We’ll get to Gwyneth and Clavicular, but first, let’s look back to this year’s Met Gala, maybe the most hated in the event’s history…
